When creating Payment Links, you can set a payment frequency to collect recurring payments (subscriptions). You can also set a fixed payment date and enable proration. Your customers will then be charged automatically on the schedule you configure.
Supported Payment Methods
Recurring payments are available with credit card payments only.
Even if you offer multiple payment methods, only the credit card option will be displayed for recurring payments.
Automatic Debits and the First Charge
Recurring payments are processed as automatic debits.
The timing and amount of the first charge depend on whether you set a fixed payment date and enable proration.
Without a Fixed Payment Date
The first full charge is made when the customer completes the initial payment. Subsequent charges are made at the frequency you configure, based on the date of the initial payment.
With a Fixed Payment Date and Without Proration
No payment is collected when the subscription is created. The customer's card is verified, and the first full charge is made on the fixed payment date you configure.
With a Fixed Payment Date and Proration
A prorated amount is charged immediately for the period from the subscription start date until the next fixed payment date.
The first full recurring charge is then charged on the fixed payment date.
Fixed Payment Date
A fixed payment date allows you to charge customers on a specific day of each weekly, monthly, or yearly billing cycle, regardless of when they start their subscription.
The payment schedule is based on the configured time zone.
For monthly subscriptions, if the fixed payment date does not exist in a particular month, the charge will be processed on the last day of that month.
Example: If the fixed payment date is set to the 31st
Customers will be charged on the 30th in months with 30 days, and on February 28 or 29 in February.
Proration
When proration is enabled, a prorated amount is charged immediately for the period from the subscription start date until the next fixed payment date.
The prorated amount is calculated based on the number of days between the subscription start date and the next fixed payment date. After that, the full subscription amount is charged on each fixed payment date.
Example: A customer starts a monthly subscription on the 20th, with the fixed payment date set to the 1st
The customer is charged a prorated amount immediately for the period from the 20th until the next 1st. After that, the full monthly amount is charged on the 1st of every month.
Timing of Subsequent Charges
If no fixed payment date is configured, subsequent charges are processed on the same day of each billing cycle as the initial full payment.
If a fixed payment date is configured, subsequent full charges are processed on that fixed payment date for each billing cycle.
Shipping Address
The shipping information entered when the subscription is created is saved, so customers do not need to enter their shipping address again for subsequent charges.
If needed, you can refer to the shipping information in the subscription's initial transaction or customer details.
Cancellation
To cancel a recurring payment, follow these steps:
- Select Subscriptions under the Manage tab in your dashboard.
- Select or search for the subscription you want to cancel.
- Click Cancel in the top-right corner, then confirm the cancellation.
Important:
Cancellations take effect immediately, and all future charges are stopped.
If the first full charge has not yet been made, canceling the subscription before that charge means no payment will be collected.
Payments that have already been collected, including prorated payments, are not automatically refunded when you cancel a subscription.
