We are currently unable to accept the businesses and payment models listed below. Even if your business falls under one of them, you may still be able to use KOMOJU by changing how your business is structured.
Businesses and Products We Cannot Accept
Can I sell e-cigarettes or nicotine products?
Sales of e-cigarettes and nicotine products cannot be accepted, whether you are a domestic or an overseas corporation.
Products that do not contain nicotine (such as nicotine-free liquids) are not rejected across the board; they are judged individually during merchant screening.
Can I use KOMOJU to collect participation fees for matchmaking events or marriage-hunting parties?
KOMOJU cannot be used to collect participation fees for events intended for meeting people, such as matchmaking events (machikon) and marriage-hunting parties.
Payment Models We Cannot Accept
Can I use KOMOJU for a C2C / marketplace site that distributes sales to individual sellers?
We cannot accept models in which individuals or sole proprietors are registered as sellers and sales are distributed to them (C2C / marketplace model). Structures that distribute sales to the sellers themselves, such as for second-hand goods, flea markets, handmade goods, C2C digital content, or creators' works, are currently not accepting new applications. For details, please see Availability of the Platform Model (Marketplaces, Distributed Payouts, and Holding Sales).
Selling live animals (such as coral) or pet-related products in a marketplace format also falls under this structure.
Can I use an escrow arrangement that holds payments until the transaction is completed?
We do not support holding funds received from buyers until service delivery or transaction completion is confirmed, and then distributing or refunding them. The same applies to real estate or rental space brokerage and payment of fees for outsourced work.
Can I take over card information registered with another payment service?
Card information or recurring billing contracts registered with another payment service cannot be migrated as-is, for example for collecting reservation cancellation fees on behalf of beauty clinics or esthetic salons. For how to migrate, please see Using KOMOJU Alongside Other Payment Services and Switching from Other Providers.
Alternative Structures to Consider
- A structure where your company is the seller (single merchant model): You can use KOMOJU if your company receives the sales in its own account and then pays sellers and partners individually.
- Payment Links: Even if you do not have an e-commerce website, you can receive payments through payment links that you share by email or social media.
